Henri Maurice (Marice, Auré, Orisse, Orice) CHENE, was born on 16 August 1833 in St-Benoit, QC, Canada,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and was baptized on 17 August 1833 in St-Benoit, St-Benoit, QC, Canada. Godparents: François Chéné & Emélie Legault.1 He married Rosalie PARADIS, daughter of Jean Marie PARADIS and Marie Louise RICHER, on 23 February 1857 in St-Hermas, St-Hermas, QC, Canada.10 He died on 1 June 1913 in Alfred, ON, Canada, at the age of 79.11 His name at the time of death was written as Henri CHENEZ12 and was buried on 4 June 1913 at the parish cemetery in Alfred, ON.13,11
RESEARCH NOTE:
It is apparent that a parish register problem exists for two individuals for the family of Joseph Chéné & Victoire Louise Legault Delorier (Victoire Legault). These 2 individuals are: Marie Auré Chéné and Henri Maurice Orice Chéné.
The birth and baptism record for Marie Auré Chéné definitely seems to be in doubt. Her birth is written in the parish registry of St-Hermas as 16 Aug 1833 (baptism 17 Aug 1833).
Her marriage or her death records cannot be found anywhere (creating a doubt to the existence of this person).
To further emphasize the fact that Marie Auré Chéné does not exist I researched 7 Canadian Census Returns, namely: 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911. In all of these Canadian Census Returns no Marie Auré can be found:
1st: Marie-Auré is only present at her baptism in 1833. She is not found anywhere thereafter.
2nd: Orisse appears in the 1851 Canadian Census and is 18 years old, which places his birth in 1833
3rd: Marice appears in the 1861 Canadian Census and is 27 years old, which places his birth in 1834
4th: Henri appears in the1871 Canadian Census and is 38 years old, which places his birth in 1833
5th: Henry appears in the 1881 Canadian Census (Ont.) and is 48 years old, which places his birth in 1833
6th: Henrie appears in the 1891 Canadian Census (Ont.) and is 57 years old, which places his birth in 1834
7th: Henri appears in the 1901 Canadian Census (Ont.) and is 67 years old. It is mentioned that he was born on August 7, 1833
8th: Henri appears in the 1911 Canadian Census (Ont.) and is 77 years old. It is mentioned that he was born in August 1834
9th: Henri died on June 1, 1913 aged 79 years and 10 months. He would therefore have been born in August 1833
So what should we conclude? Is Henri really the child who was baptized in 1833? The celebrant probably mistyped his name (Marie-Aurée and Orisse sound alike). Or could Orisse be a twin brother? And what is this habit they have of changing their first name along the way?
What may have happened is that the name was in fact erroneously written that way instead of (Henri Orice Maurice) Chéné. In all of the previously mentioned Canadian Census Returns, i.e.: 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 the name of Henri Chéné (there are various spellings to his given name as well as his surname) IS listed, but not Marie Auré.
In these census returns his birth date "drifts" between 1833 and 1834. The year 1833 is the same birth year that was erroneously attributed to Marie Auré Chéné.
Therefore, Marie Auré Chéné's birth record in the St-Hermas parish register is in fact that of Henri Maurice, Marice, Orice, Orisse, Chéné.
But, in order to preserve the parish record entry for the baptism of Marie Auré Chéné I will retain her in the family records for those who come across "her baptism", and if they read this reasearch note they will understand the situation.

Godparents: Charles Rochon & Scholastique Verdon, his spouse.1 His baptismal name as written in the parish register was Louis Moîse PROULX DIT CLEMENT.1 He married Philomène CHENE, daughter of Charles CHENE and Marie Angélique PERIER (PERRIER), on 9 December 1851 in Buckingham, QC, Canada. Witnesses at her wedding were: Charles Chenay and Elie Yupel.3,4,5 As of 9 December 1851, his married name was Lewis CLEMENT.3 [:CR:
Research Note: The Buckingham parish marriage record for Lewis Clément and Philomène Chenay states Lewis Clément's parents were Joseph Clément and Josephte Grace (maybe Grou?).
However it seems no marriage record between a Joseph Proulx and Josephte Grace (or Grou) could be found. Searching the parishes of St-Benoit, St-Eustache and Buckingham as well as the 1851 Canada East (Québec) Census and 1861 Canada East Census for those areas did not reveal any information. It would seem a mistake was made in this parish register, so I have shown the parents of Lewis Clément as: Joseph Clément and Josephte Verdun, the most likely correct parents.
Additional children of Joseph Proulx dit Clément and Josephte Verdun may be viewed at Généalogie du Québec et d'Amérique française website (Nos Origines) at this link: https://www.nosorigines.qc.ca/GenealogieQuebec.aspx?genealogie=Proulx_Joseph&pid=1753636.
