Biographical Notes: His wedding notice which appeared in the Adirondack News newspaper of St.Regis Falls, NY in Sep 1887 spelled his name as CHENEZ. The following is a quote from that paper: "Chenez - Deno - At the Catholic church Sept. 19th, by Father Ouellette, Mr. Phillip Chenez to Miss Amelia Deno."



Research Notes: According to Mary Alice Cheney, she says that when she was young she always saw a name plate on Philippe Chénier's house that said "CHENIER". From an e-mail from Stephan Cheney on the 24 Sep 2000 he says he saw Philippe's tombstone and his surname is spelled as "CHENEY". Now I believe that Philippe was baptised as a Chénier (Alfred, Ont parish records prior to 1874 are difficult to find anywhere) but after moving to the USA he had friends and others call him by the way the name sounded i.e. CHENEY and thereafter most times his name was spelled CHENEY, even though he had a name plate on his house that said CHENIER as testified by Mary Alice Cheney on a telephone conversation to me on the 24 of Sep 2000.

     Floyd Phillip Joseph CHENEY, was born on 5 August 1894 in Canton, NY, USA.^1,2 He married Martha Mary Anna PATNODE, daughter of Peter PATNODE and Délia GAGNIER, on 15 November 1916 in Ellenburg, NY, USA.^3,4 He married Kathleen MALOY, daughter of William MALOY and Julie FORTUNE, on 8 November 1934 in Watertown, NY, USA.⁵ He died in May 1977 in Watertown, NY, at the age of 82.

     Martha Mary Anna PATNODE, was born on 25 December 1888 in Churubosco, NY, USA.^1,2 She married Floyd Phillip Joseph CHENEY, son of Philippe Joseph CHENIER (CHENEY) and Amelia DENO, on 15 November 1916 in Ellenburg, NY, USA.^3,4 She died on 15 March 1928 in Deferiet, NY, USA, at the age of 39. The body was placed in a vault at the Fairview cemetery in Carthage, New York.^1,2
