Skead is a community 24 km from Capreol. Although originally called Massey Bay in 1921, the name was changed three years later to its present form (Carter: 727). Skead was named for Kitty Skead Bell, daughter of lumber baron and senator James Skead and wife of W. J. Bell of Sudbury.
